Comments and Reviews from users:

Jennifer Granger: “I love this app! It's amazing! It's so easy to use... just snap a picture and it will identify and diagnose health issues. It's so informative from landscaping design to how to take care of anything... and can even identify birds, bugs, trees, and tree rings instantly!! I'd definitely stay with it after the trial if I could just pay $2.99/month fee vs having to dish out $50 altogether for the year! This app is the best I've ever seen!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Danielle Fannin: “This is the most used app on my phone between the months of April and October. The free version has loads of fantastic features. I've had the premium version in the past when it was less pricey but for my use, it's not worth $35.99 a year. I've considered it just to get rid of the annoying sign up page that comes up constantly. I'd pay something to get rid of that but not thar much. I could buy a LOT of seeds for 36 bucks lol.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

kakashi hatake: “App was working very well, now it gets stuck at the "sending pictures" phase. Haven't used it for some time, now It's no longer functional. Will change rating to 5 stars once this gets fixed. Update:Great app, was very handy identifying many plants. You still have to find the perfect match to your plant through the list but that is mostly fine. Thanks for being responsive and for fixing the issue!” – 5/5 in Play Store

lign Good: “Very accurate and versatile. Probably as close to perfect as it is possible to be. To get more accurate results, you need to learn to use the app and make sure you try several different photos and when uncertain get both bark and leaves or fruit/flowers). Very, very impressive. The app learns and gets better the more people use it but it is already amazingly accurate.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Cons Requires an internet connection, can be slow to identify birds, and the sound ID feature is not always accurate.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Seth Baker: “Haven't used it in a while, seems to be redesigned, which is ok with me but now I can't see how to listen to example songs of birds I look up. I've got my local pack installed. I used to enjoy looking up birds and playing their calls for my kids while looking at the picture and reading the blurb. My pack is three quarters of a gig, you'd think there'd be sound files in there. Anyway it's a great app but used to be better.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Adammrtl27: “This app was great. It worked great. No ads. Perfect. Lots of fun.. but that most recent update seems to have caused me some issues. Like it won't always save the birds I encounter. It has something to do with the location info that populates when I save a bird... I will try to take a screen cap next time it happens, if that helps...” – 3/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

thesnekker10: “It's not perfect, but it's a big step in the right direction. It got several things right on the first try, and other times it guessed wrong or provided a lot of different options to choose from. Sometimes I got different results depending on whether I photographed the leaves or bark, so maybe a future version could accept multiple inputs. The ad frequency is mildly annoying, but that is the cost of digital innovation.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Owlboy _: “Excellent app! And completely free. The ads are pretty innocuous, generic android ads. Nothing super obnoxious. But more importantly, great plant ID. Gives you several guesses, with pictures and background info. Really impressive! (One bug: Sometimes "read more" doesn't continue the blurb but takes you to all new info without finishing the original sentence - as far as I can tell.)” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

kiki animeokamidrawer: “Great idea! Bad execution. Love everything about this! I just wish you could add more then one picture especially. It would make identification easier. Sometimes one angle just isn't enough. Also being able to give a description with each photo could be helpful as well. Since some cameras aren't the greatest. Maybe a "other defining features" option where posters can verify the colors or anatomy of the insect if the camera can't quite get it all in its glory. Otherwise love the app!” – 3/5 in Play Store

EJ Wessel: “I like the app, but it does tend to be inaccurate. There used to be a cool feature where you could browse insects people around you had found on a map, but theyve removed it. There was also a feature where you could ask everyone for ID help, which was fun. I wish they would come back. A location feature would be nice to check for insects found in your area. I am in Germany and get false IDs for bugs not in europe. I do like the app overall tho.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Pros Great for learning about nature, connecting with other naturalists, and contributing to scientific research.
Cons Can be addictive, and it can be difficult to identify some species without expert help.

Comments and Reviews from users:

Zach Gentner: “The user experience could be slightly better. It's unclear how to join groups or subscribe to guides. I don't believe there is a follow feature for users either. Overall the app functions well, but it's rather unintuitive. My favorite thing about iNaturalist is that it makes you much more conscious of every living thing around you. Each specimen becomes a beautiful and amazing new example of how vastly complex our world is. Every organism plays a part in the world, no matter how small.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Cialin D.: “i love inaturalist, but the interface on the app is not great. posting observations is just ok, sometimes tricky. trying to look at other people's observations or just browsing through animals a lot of problems arise. i can't sort by favorites, recent, species, most of the stuff i like really. when im out i gotta rely on opening inaturalist in my browser which is a bit odd on mobile. inaturalist is a great community, i hope they can optimize the app so it's easier to access on the go.” – 2/5 in Play Store

ruben vaughn: “This app has a lot of potential. The idea behind it and some of the features are really cool. However, it is a pain to use. It often kicks you out. The camera takes a while to load and freezes often. The camera takes too long to take a photo, often turns blurry, and focuses on the background. Plants it is okay at, but forget about animals. It often cycles between class and family, rarely making it to genus. Cool idea but the current version is incredibly frustrating to use.” – 2/5 in Play Store

Thomas Slusher (pupslush): “I love a lot about this app. It makes observations simple and seeing the progress as it develops can be informative. That said, it crashes a lot or seems to stop guessing and often you have to restart the app. Most importantly though, there is no way to save your observations if you get a new device. If you do not upload to inaturalist at the time of the observation, you cannot do it later. There is no export feature. New device means you lose everything, incl achievements.” – 2/5 in Play Store

curiosidades de Kimberly y Andres Hernandez: “The app Isn't always correct but I love it everything else including that it is free. Also, many people claim that an ad pops up when you open the app about the free seven day trial. Yes, that popped up too on my phone. The only thing you have to do is press the arrow that is on the bottom of your phone that looks like this: > ( but pointing down ) and you are done and discover many things about birds. The same thing works with all the other apps this company made (I have all of them) thx :)” – 5/5 in Play Store

BRAD TRETTIEN: “This app is amazing, disregard all of the people who complained about having a pay, if you press the back button when the payment comes up, everything that I use is completely free. You take a photo, have a photo of any bird and the app scans it and instantly pulls up a comprehensive profile of that bird. It does the same thing if you can hear a bird, the app will immediately identity it. It's very impressive. I definitely recommend it.” – 5/5 in Play Store

Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “I am having a problem with a couple bugs. Not only have some of my butterflies been disappearing from random sets, the app is also not keeping butterflies fused or upgraded. This has been going on for several months and I thought I was crazy at first but now I know I'm not. I would've given this app 5 stars total because I enjoy the experience but it is aggravating that I am unable to perfect any of the event sets, especially the ones with wisps. So a total of 3.” – 3/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “its a decent game, if you're into collecting and discovering new species then this is for you. The waiting time for different things in this game either takes a few minutes or a lot of hours and its mostly hours so its not really fun that way since there isnt much to do in the game anyways except for waiting and collecting coins and expanding your space in the game for more butterflies that require more waiting, but i think the animations and graphics are well done.” – 4/5 in Play Store

Cons May not work offline, Requires internet connection, Limited to certain regions

Comments and Reviews from users:

Mergen Patricia: “Many identifications are wrong. It is user friendly and works for common species, but identifications are better checked before publishing. There does not seem to be an option to enter a species manually when the correct name is not in the suggested list. But this is how such citizen systems improve and get better over time so there are more correct reference images. Rather disappointing. Other such apps like iNaturalist perform better. Sad as such local apps with local common names are needed.” – 3/5 in Play Store

Naomi Zouteriks: “The new version is great! It recognizes so many species. Feedback for developers: sometimes(1/30 species) it crashes after determination of a picture right when i want to save it. Has to do with certain species (Wolf Spider Unknown for example). You just can't save the determination. Other then that, great app!” – 5/5 in Play Store

Tried to other apps before this one, the first wouldn't even let me try to identify smth without paying first, the second couldn't identify it. This one identified it as a Giant House Spider, appropriately enough. I did have to watch 3 ads and tell it 'no I just want the free version' 3 times as well just to identify the one insect, though. Comments and Reviews from users:

A Google user: “Absolutely love my Butterfly iQs. Yes, multiple. One of the best days of my life was my wife coming home from resident clinic and asking me, "Um, so...do you think we could maybe get a Butterfly for me too?" A week later, a shiny new iQ with a USB-C cable arrived on our doorstep to complement our family's beloved Lightning version for my wife's iPhone. Some major discussion points: 1) No, it's not yet an exact carbon copy of the iOS version, but it's getting there quickly. Multiple updates since I got it, and each one better and more feature-filled than the last. 2) My Android version actually had color power doppler mode before even the iOS version did! 3) The Butterfly team has been extremely responsive throughout the whole process. Full disclosure: I'm one of the earliest adopters of the iQ probe, and have been lucky enough to get several of their products early for testing. I am NOT paid for this (or for anything else) by the Butterfly Network, nor do I work for the company in any formal capacity. BUT I've been able to discuss many of the challenges of the platform directly with the engineers and developers, and over the last 2 years or so, I have consistently seen nothing but dedication and hard work from their end to develop the product that physicians (us!) want and need, which is a tragically rare thing in the med-tech world. 4) Device compatibility - yes, it's an issue, as other reviews note. As it turns out, Android phones are all over the map in terms of hardware, which makes compatibility with a device like this super tricky. The chipset used in a phone can even vary between the US and European versions of the same phone. When the difference is the way a game's primary color swatch is displayed, it's annoying. When the difference is whether or not you make a life-saving diagnosis, there's significantly less tolerance. Yes, it's annoying to have to wait for what others have access to. But in my experience, these guys have come through with their promises every time, and I don't see any reason to expect something different this time. TL;DR: Love me some ultraportable ultrasound, can't wait to see what's coming next.” – 5/5 in Play Store

A Google user: “Reviewing the Android capable butterfly paired with a Pixel 3. First started using the iPhone version of the gadget and app, and found both steadily improved since inception, with the team readily fixing glitches and bugs as they were discovered; I thought the most recent version I used (mid 2019) was polished and highly functional. Since switching to Android for convenience, I've found this software to be equally polished and effective. I hope they'll support other Android devices soon too.” – 5/5 in Play Store
